The Guardian Guide: The Chapel Corsham

There's something quite satisfying about necking a cocktail at a bar made from a choir stall. This former congregational chapel offers a brand of succour for all the right reasons: concoctions include the Chapel Apple Strudel, a vodka and schapps-laced number sprinkled with cinnamon, and the sturdy but welloiled Mrs Robinson, a mix of bourbon, crème de framboise, lemon juice and gomme.

The interior is a marvel - a cavernous space funked up with leather sofas, a Spanish chandelier and a pink neon lighting rig. It's a tad Sex And The City - a deliberate ploy to lure both ladies who lunch and ex-urban trendies.

Food comprises a solid selection of platters, from tortillas to king prawns, bruschetta, chorizo and onion bhajis, while the tagine of lamb and crème brulee hit the spot for measured dining.
